OWNER RELINQUISHING A DOG(S)

Understand we know you have thought long, and hard about this decision to relinquish your dog to rescue.  Our first goal is to try to help you keep your dog in your home using are vast resources. 

 

If that is not possible we will need a photo of your dog taken from floor level.  A facial shot, and a side view photo.

 

Send all information to Dogwood@vadsr.org.

 

We will get back to you with 48 hours.  Please remember we are a volunteer membership organization, and some of us work full time.  If you have not heard from someone in that time please feel free to call us at 703 406-8920

 

You will then be sent a Owner Relinquishment form to fill out. 

 

All of our dogs are placed in foster homes and treated as members of the family till a forever home can be found.

 

We are able to take the following dogs into rescue:

 

Purebred Shetland Sheepdogs (occasionally other pure bred herding dogs).

Typey mixes who are very special dogs.

Older Shelties (we have no age restrictions assuming the dog has a solid temperament)

 

We cannot take the following dogs into rescue:

 

Aggressive dogs, either with people or other dogs.  (We would be happy to help you by evaluating your sheltie, due to their high strung nature, and noise sensitivity)

 

All of DSR dogs are neutered and spayed prior to leaving rescue, dogs are on Heartworm Preventative, and are up to date on inoculations. 

 

All dogs that are placed through DSR are placed into pet or working homes where they are to live in the home with their human family. We place dogs according to energy level and temperament; working dogs go to working homes.

 

In all we try to be very careful about where our dogs go, as we care very much for each and every one!
