Text Box: HELP OUR DOGS

A Message from Dusty, Sky and the Dogwood Shelties

Please consider helping us defray costs for dogs like Dusty and Sky.  Thus far with his cardio appointments Dogwood has spent thousands of dollars.

Rescue never recoups the monies spent with adoptions fees considering spays/neuters, vaccination and getting these poor soul healthy again.

Hi, my name is Dusty. I'm the newest addition to the Dogwood Sheltie Rescue Family.  I was brought into rescue through an amazing group effort, first a volunteer found me listed on the internet, and then a volunteer pulled me from the shelter and cleaned me up. After that, another volunteer drove down from Northern Virginia and picked me up and put me in her home, I call her Foster Mom.

Well, although I'm happy to have a temporary home, I really want a furever home and the rescue people won't let me be adopted until I'm well; you probably should know I came in to rescue tick and flea covered, emaciated, I have some infections, intestinal worms,  and the worst thing, I'm heartworm positive.

The good people at Dogwood have a rehabilitation plan in place under the supervision of a great vet, and I've started medications and special food to get the strength to fight the heart worms. Although I'm ill, I'm trying hard to be a good boy, and it seems to be working, here is what Foster Mom is saying about me:

"Dusty is a very sweet young man, about 4 yrs old. He is house broken but does not ask to go out, at least not yet. We have not heard a peep out of him in the 3+ days he has been here.  Personality wise he is sweet (as I keep saying) he has gotten along fine (for what little time they were near each other)with both my dogs. He seeks attention from people and does like to follow along with the other dogs,  he walks fine on a leash and when we get close to the house he heads in on his own – seemingly happy to be going in. NO FEAR OF HIM TRYING TO ESCAPE. He enjoys lying next to you on the floor while you give him a slow gently rub – I did that for about 2 hours last night ….."

Because the family at Dogwood cares about me and getting me strong and adoptable, they are asking you for a special donation of $20 to help take care of me, please help if you can. Anything you can give is appreciated by the Dogwood Sheltie Family and will help them get me in shape to go to my furever home.

Dusty has to wait till October to start Heartworm treatment, just a little more good nutrition to build up more body mass.  Paws crossed.

SKY

A petite little princess that came into rescue so malnourish all of her bone were visible.  She is regaining her health and Dogwood is forever grateful to Charlottesville SPCA for allowing Dogwood to help her gain her strength back.
